Mountain wedding

This lovely couple had their wedding ceremony reception at the beautiful Ruffles Lodge on the Gold Coast hinterland. Unfortunately, light showers on their wedding day meant that they couldn’t have the outside wedding overlooking the Gold Coast beaches that they had planned. However, the rain cleared in time for the breath-taking dove release and to enable some beautiful sunset portraits, complete with a rainbow sunset.

The dove release was a lot of fun. I spent some time beforehand trying to establish the best shutter speed, so we had the doves clear and wing blur on the release. But the best tip came from the dove handler who said to shoot fast as soon as the doves are released, because they go straight up, really fast, and they sure did!

One nice touch, was that a dove laid an egg in the holding cage before it’s release. Apparently this is really good luck and this was the first time the handler had seen it happen!

So with the rain and the dove egg, this couple should have a beautifully blessed wedding!

Mt Tamborine Wedding

These images are from a Croatian wedding I second shot for Yulia Curly of Yulia Photography. It was a beautiful location (Cedar Creek Lodges), a beautiful couple and a beautiful wedding (sigh). Enjoy.

Wedding at Brisbane International Hotel

All weddings I have photographed have been beautiful…but this one was just breath-taking. The bride was absolutely gorgeous and the couple so obviously in love with each other. The wedding was intimate, personal and very special…there were tears all round. I second shot this wedding for Yulia Photography (www.yuliaphotography.com.au).

City Wedding

This glamorous couple, who had a low-key vintage theme threading through their very stylish wedding, were married at the Latrobe Chapel, Paddington.  Pre-ceremony shots were taken at the Stamford Plaza and the City Botanic Gardens. After the ceremony, the couple strolled down Latrobe Terrace before heading off to their reception.

While walking through the gardens for this photo session, the bride received compliments from several people (including teenage boys!) on how stunning she looked and on how gorgeous her dress was…and the groom received one as well. They made a really handsome and elegant couple.

A Sunshine Coast Wedding

The expression “glowing bride” is something of a truism and often over-done. On this occasion, it was truth. The couple had been together since they were in their mid-teens and so obviously so much in love with each other. Their joy at their wedding coloured the whole day. It was one of those days that make you feel happy to be alive and so grateful that you could be a part of their ceremony and celebration. This wedding I second-shot with a Sunshine Coast photograper (Caronline Turner) as the primary.

A Thai Wedding

In March, I photographed a traditional Thai wedding in Sritoy Village (near Chiangrai) in Northern Thailand. This civil ceremony was a mix of Western tradition (exchanging rings) and the more traditional Thai ceremony marked by the tying of white string bands on each of the bride’s and groom’s wrists by the wedding guests. The ceremony was conducted by the village headman.

The ceremony begins with the groom approaching the bride and gaining permission to wed her from her extended family by paying a token amount (which, in this case, went to the high school students who danced at the ceremony).

Entry is prohibited by a chain barrier until the groom pays the necessary fee

The bride and groom then exchange traditional, elaborate necklaces made entirely from fresh flowers and strung together by hand.

The ceremony itself is conducted under cover with the bride and groom facing their wedding guests. In this instance, as the groom was a Westerner, rings were exchanged between the couple. The traditional Thai ceremony commenced wtih a circlet of joined flowers  placed on the heads of the bride and groom. This is followed by a welcome from the headman and welcoming statements from each of the bride and groom’s families. The formal ceremony is concluded by tying on white strings onto the wrists of the bridal couple and a reception.

A wedding of sunshine, love and laughter

This bayside wedding was shot in late May under brilliant blue skies, with golden magic in the air and a love between the couple that threaded through the whole day and lit the ceremony with joy. Even now, reflecting on this wedding makes me smile with happiness – there was just so much love in this beautifully touching, simple, open-air ceremony. I assisted one of Brisbane’s leading wedding photographers for the ceremony and got to solo my first “groom prep” session.

An Australian Wedding

Kassy and Jason’s wonderfully exuberant wedding was an outdoor ceremony with several distinctly Australian elements: kangaroos, cockatoos and Jacarandas in full bloom. Kassy and Jason had planned and saved for this wedding over several years, so it was really wonderful to be able to be a part of this event coming together for them.
